Installation

Install jawb with one command, or build it from source.

Install the jawb CLI and the jawbd daemon it is pinned to with one command.

macOS and Linux:

curl -fsSL https://get.jawb.app/install.sh | sh

Windows (PowerShell):

irm https://get.jawb.app/install.ps1 | iex

Builds are published for Windows x86_64, macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), and Linux x86_64. The download page has both commands with copy buttons, and the desktop app.

What the installer does

  • It reads the latest release from https://get.jawb.app/cli/latest.json (set JAWB_VERSION to pin a version), downloads the archive for your platform, and checks its SHA-256 before installing anything.
  • When minisign is on your PATH, it also checks the release's minisign signature (key 911E98C297EA8E7B). Without minisign it says it skipped that check; the SHA-256 check always runs.
  • It installs jawb and its pinned jawbd into ~/.jawb/bin on macOS and Linux, and into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\jawb\bin on Windows. JAWB_INSTALL_ROOT changes the location.
  • On Windows it adds that directory to your user PATH. On macOS and Linux it never edits your shell profile: it prints the export PATH=... line to add to ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc.

Then check it:

jawb status

You don't start the daemon yourself. The first jawb command that finds no daemon on 127.0.0.1:4180 starts jawbd in the background. If jawbd is ever missing, jawb downloads the exact version it is pinned to and verifies it against the signing key built into jawb; a bad signature or a network error stops the download rather than running an unverified daemon. More in running the daemon.

Chrome or Chromium for Act and See

Act and See commands (clicking, filling forms, screenshots, and --js on Read/observe) need a locally installed Chrome or Chromium — jawb never downloads one. It's found automatically at the standard install locations, or you point at one explicitly when starting the daemon. Read, status, profiles and navigation work without one.

The desktop app

The desktop app is where you approve what jawbd holds for you and review what your agent did. It is a separate download, for macOS, Windows and Linux, on the download page.

Build from source

If you'd rather build it yourself, you need a recent stable Rust toolchain (cargo):

git clone https://github.com/4hum-ai/jawb-core
git clone https://github.com/4hum-ai/jawb-cli

Run the daemon from jawb-core with cargo run -p jawbd, and the CLI from jawb-cli with cargo run -- <command> in place of jawb <command>.

Licence

jawb is free for personal developers. Business and team use will need a paid licence. Everyone, personal use included, will sign in with a jawb account.

Next: run the daemon.
